BDNA’s enterprise class agent-less discovery technology has a very strong proposition. The product has matured to a strong contender with good penetration depth, data normalisation and reporting capabilities, as well as strong deployment agility and reasonable pricing.

However, BDNA have made an even bigger impression with us here at ITAMS recently. They’ve added considerable new functionality, including light dependency mapping (BDNA MAPS) and also acquired and integrated long time asset management specialist firm PS’Soft, extending their portfolio substantially into asset lifecycle and IT service management.

Agent-less technology has its challenges, not least LAN security, but we regularly use this type of product when clients need centralised, rapid acquired asset information with minimal impact to the network or change to the profile of each box.

Key initiatives driving the use of agent-less discovery include M&A, datacentre consolidation, Green IT and times of managed service transition. Alongside this, challenges on the licensing side such as Oracle Server Worksheet (OSW) driven audits which need specialist data to be collected.

We strongly recommend BDNA and the underlying Asset Insight discovery and PS’Soft technology. BDNA is one of the few specialist ITAM firms remaining truly capable of spanning zero footprint discovery right through to full lifecycle management in organisations of all sizes (i.e. 200 - 200,000 seats). Used properly in either project or full deployment mode, it does what it is designed to do and delivers good results.
